Undergraduate Admissions
Definition of an International Student
If you meet any of the following conditions, you are classified by KU as an international student. You should apply to KU through the Office of International Undergraduate Admissions.
· You are not a US citizen.
· You are currently in any non-immigrant status.
· Your application for US permanent residence is pending.
· You do not have approved US permanent residence.
· You do not have approved refugee status.
· You do not have approved political asylum.
Where you attended high school does not determine which admission office or which application you should use. Your in-state or out-of-state residency status (for tuition purposes) is not determined by which office through which you apply. Eligibility for in-state tuition is determined by the KU Residency Specialist in the Registrar's Office.
Which application form should you use?
- Undergraduate applicants in non-immigrant status, including applicants whose permanent residence status is pending approval, apply through the Office of International Undergraduate Admissions.
- Undergraduate applicants who are U.S. citizens, dual citizens (who are eligible for U.S. passport), approved U.S. permanent residents, refugees and U.S. political asylees apply through the Office of Admissions and Scholarships.
If you are uncertain about your status, you may present your papers to an ISSS immigration advisor for determination of status or contact isss@ku.edu (785) 864-3617.
