International Freshman Applicant Timeline

If you want to begin your studies in the Fall semester as a Freshman student, this is the general timeline of application activity.

September through February

  • Apply for admission to KU (see Admissions Requirements and Deadlines). Apply online or mail a paper application.
  • Learn more about transfer credits or AP/IB credits:
    • AP (CollegeBoard KU code 6871)
    • IB
  • Read the KU Pre-Arrival information (mailed with admission packet or online at our pre-arrival page)

January

  • January 15: Final deadline for eligible students to apply for ISSS admissions scholarships for Fall semester. All required application materials must be received in our office or postmarked by this date.
  • Apply for admission to KU (see Deadlines). Apply online or mail a paper application.
  • F-1 or J-1 students, if you have been admitted and issued your SEVIS document, register with SEVIS and apply for your student visa.

February/March

  • February 1: Priority deadline to apply to the University Honors Program. if eligible and interested www.honors.ku.edu.
  • March 1 is the priority deadline to apply for scholarship halls.
  • F-1 or J-1 students, if you have been admitted and issued your SEVIS document, register with SEVIS and apply for your student visa.
  • After obtaining visa, make your travel plans
  • Create your KU Online ID. You must use your seven-digit student ID number found in your admittance letter to get your Online ID.
  • If you plan to live on campus, sign an online contract with student housing for on-campus housing. More information and sign-up dates can be found at the Student Housing website.

April

  • April 1: Final Fall semester deadline to apply for general admission to KU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • Check with your high school counselor to make sure all of your paperwork has been completed for KU.
  • Return housing contract and initial payment to the KU Housing Office (sent to you only if you have mailed in your housing application).
  • After obtaining visa, make your travel plans
  • Register for KU ISSS Orientation information

May

  • May 1: If you were awarded a KU admissions scholarship, be sure to accept your scholarship by this date or earlier if you plan to attend KU in Fall semester
  • May 1: Final deadline to apply to the University Honors Program if eligible and interested www.honors.ku.edu
  • If you took Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, request that these official scores be sent electronically from ETS or IBO

  • IB
  • Graduate from high school
  • Have your high school send your final transcript, graduation certificate or diploma to ISSS Admissions
  • Register for KU ISSS Orientation information

June/July

  • Have your high school send your final transcript, graduation certificate or diploma to ISSS

August

  • August 8: Official report date indicated on I-20 and DS-2019 for all first year freshmen and undergraduate transfer
  • August 12:  Official report date indicated on I-20 and DS-2019 for readmitted students
  • August 14: Jayhawk Towers residence hall open
  • August 17: All other residence and scholarship halls open
  • August 17: Hawk Week activities begin
  • August 20: First day of Fall classes
  • You are now a Jayhawk!
